Ecologists bring the focus on garbage

Moscow, RUSSIA. On July 14, International Day to Combat Waste Incineration, activists of the Greenpeace ecological group staged an action of protest in Moscow. The protest was held outside the state company 'Ecotechprom' which owns all garbage-disposal plants in the capital. The protesters urged the government to give up garbage incineration practice in favor of waste recycling.

The issue of waste generation and accumulation is one of the most serious ones for the current state and prospects for development of the global ecosystem that to a different extent concerns all nations of the world. High rate of waste accumulation in the Russian Federation is due to high rate of their generation in all sectors of economy and low level of reprocessing industry. Meanwhile the issue of annual generation of a huge amount of waste results from substantial material consumption during production based mostly on obsolete technologies that do not permit the maximum reprocessing of raw materials.
